Simply put, menopause is the stage when you no longer have periods. You are said to be menopausal, or in menopause when a year has passed since your last period.

Perimenopause, or “premenopause” as it’s sometimes been called, is the stage before you enter menopause. As you near menopause your hormones may fluctuate wildly, causing very uncomfortable symptoms for some women.
Perimenopause can last anywhere from just a few years to ten years or more.The average age for women entering menopause is said to be 51 years, but of course this varies greatly. Some women enter perimenopause in their 30’s, others not until well into their late 50’s or 60’s.
